Tottenham are monitoring the progress of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as they plan for Toby Alderweireld’s departure, reports The Daily Mirror.
Contract negotiations between Alderweireld and Tottenham have collapsed and now the Belgium international is widely expected to leave at the end of the season.
Tottenham would rather keep Alderweireld, who has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, but they may not have any choice but to cash in this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have already scouted Tah as a potential replacement for Alderweireld, but the 22-year-old only signed a new long-term deal with Leverkusen at the end of last month.
The Germany international’s current deal now runs until 2023, which would make it even more expensive for Tottenham if they firmed up their interest in the summer.
Of players aged under 23 in the Bundesliga this season, only three have attempted more passes than Tah (1179).
