Manchester United midfielder faces two months out injured

Manchester United Marouane Fellaini is facing surgery to correct a long-standing knee problem and two months out, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Jose Mourinho brought Fellaini off the bench in Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham but the Belgium international only lasted seven minutes before needing to come off again.

The United manager later confirmed Fellaini suffered a reoccurrence of his long-standing knee injury and now the 30-year-old is expected to undergo surgery to finally put an end to his injury woes.

Fellaini has barely featured for United this season and his current deal is due to expire at the end of the season after rejecting an offer of an extension back in September.

Mourinho is desperate to keep Fellaini beyond the end of the current campaign but his future is perhaps even more uncertain now, particularly if scan results confirm he has suffered fresh damage to the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Injuries have limited Fellaini to just 409 minutes of playing time in the Premier League spread across 12 appearances this season, however he has still managed to score three times in that period.
