Manchester City have told Everton they will not go any higher than their current £40m bid for central defender John Stones, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Stones, 21, has been heavily linked with a move to City this summer with Pep Guardiola keen to add a natural ball-playing defender to his squad.
The England international, who is coming off the back of a poor season, was close to joining Chelsea last summer but City are the only club willing to even get close to Everton’s staggering valuation.
No outfield player committed more errors that directly led to a goal in the Premier League last season than Stones (3).
