Burnley secure Premier League return

Burnley have secured promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking with a 1-0 win over QPR guaranteeing them a place in England's top tier next term.

Brighton's failure to overcome Derby earlier in the day, coupled with Middlesbrough's inability to defeat Birmingham on Friday, means the Clarets have landed themselves an automatic promotion place.

With Brighton travelling to Middlesbrough on the last day of the season, Burnley can begin to prepare for life in the Premier League after Sam Vokes' goal on the hour mark proved enough to overcome QPR at Turf Moor.

The Wales international headed David Jones' cross past Matt Ingram as Sean Dyche's side held firm to deny the Hoops from a positive result.

Burnley were made to work hard for the win, with the hosts managing just two shots on target over the 90 minutes compared to QPR's six as the west London outfit failed to find a way past the solid Tom Heaton.

The England goalkeeper was awarded the WhoScored man of the match award with a rating of 7.74, with Heaton playing a starring role as Burnley gear up for their Premier League return.
