Manchester United monitoring another England international at Tottenham

Manchester United will monitor Danny Rose’s return from injury throughout the course of the season with a view to firming up their interest next summer, reports Manchester Evening News.

Rose has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford since the beginning of last season but Jose Mourinho has been forced to pause the club’s pursuit after he was ruled out for the entire summer through injury.

The England international hasn’t featured since January and isn’t expected to return to full fitness until later this year after undergoing knee surgery at the start of May.

However, Rose remains of interest to Mourinho and the United manager will continue to monitor the left-back ahead of next summer, which would suggest Luke Shaw only has this season to prove his worth to the Premier League giants.

Shaw has endured a nightmare time at United since making a £30m switch from Southampton in 2014 and has often been on the receiving ends of some verbal backlash from Mourinho since he was appointed manager last summer.

The 22-year-old is also currently injured with an ankle injury sustained at the end of last season, but is determined to prove Mourinho wrong and is on course to return to full fitness midway through next month.

Rose has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance but there is a feeling he would be open to joining United as it would allow the Doncaster-born left-back to move closer to home.

United have also been heavily linked with a move for Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier this summer, but are resigned to missing out on the versatile 23-year-old as their Premier League rivals simply do not want to sell after Kyle Walker's £54m departure to Manchester City.

The Tottenham No.3 finished last season as the highest WhoScored rated left-back in the Premier League (7.42).
