Manchester United boss worried about injury to key midfielder

Jose Mourinho is concerned about the injury Nemanja Matic sustained in Manchester United’s 4-2 win away to Watford on Tuesday.

Matic requested to come off in the 54th minute at Vicarage Road after picking up a muscular problem and was seen walking gingerly through the mixed zone after the match.

United travel to Arsenal on Saturday and Mourinho will almost certainly be without the Serbia international after expressing his concern over the extent of his injury.

“Matic is injured, I don’t know how badly,” Sky Sports quote Mourinho as saying after the match. “For Matic to tell me he wants to be replaced, he does not do that if it is nothing important. It is muscular.

“We lost stability when Nemanja Matic had to come out but the important thing is the three points.”

The 29-year-old has been immense for United since joining from Chelsea over the summer and news that he is likely to miss Saturday’s clash with Arsenal is a huge blow for Mourinho’s side.

In fact, only Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure (78) has won possession in the middle third more times than Matic (74).
