Knee injury rules Aguero out of Argentina's clash with Spain

Sergio Aguero will stay in Manchester to continue his recovery from a knee injury and not travel with the rest of his Argentina teammates for Tuesday’s friendly against Spain, the country’s football association has confirmed.

The Manchester City striker watched Argentina beat Italy 2-0 from the stands with Lionel Messi on Friday night after failing to shake off a knee injury sustained at the start of the month.

Aguero is expected to return to first-team action next month and Argentina have confirmed the 29-year-old will stay with his club to continue treatment on his left knee.

“Sergio Aguero will be released from the group to continue the recovery of his left knee,” a statement read from the Argentine Football Association’s official Twitter account, via Sky Sports.

The Argentine striker has missed his last three matches for club and country but it’s important he is fully fit for the remainder of City’s season and the 2018 World Cup.

Aguero has been in fine form for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, netting 21 goals in 24 Premier League appearances.
