Palace star excels in WhoScored Premier League team of the week
This weekend was a particularly enjoyable one for Alan Pardew as he oversaw Crystal Palace score five goals in a Premier League game for the first time at the expense of his former side, Newcastle United.
Pardew was quick to point out he wasn’t overly thrilled to put one over on his former employers, but he would have been ecstatic behind the front he was showing to the press.
What would have been even more pleasing for the 54-year-old is that the 5-1 thumping over Newcastle came on home turf. The Eagles have been in sensational form since Pardew took over at the start of the year, but they’ve failed to reproduce the results they’ve obtained on the road at Selhurst Park, but they will now hope they’ve turned a corner with such an emphatic win.
Integral to their win over Newcastle on Saturday was wideman Yannick Bolasie. The 26-year-old has always been able to thrill supporters, but he’s yet shown he has the end product to match. However, the tricky winger now has three goals in as many appearances for the Eagles and has already scored as many goals this season as he managed in the two previous campaigns combined (4), and there are still 24 games to go.
Added to his brace of goals, no player on display at Selhurst Park completed more dribbles than Bolasie (4), nor did they have more shots than the Palace No.10 (5).
