Leverkusen want United defender

Bayer Leverkusen are keen to make a move for Manchester United centre-back Marcos Rojo in January, according to The Daily Mail, via Get German Football.

Rojo, 26, has struggled to make any impression at United since joining from Sporting in 2014 for £16m and was widely expected to leave in the summer after Jose Mourinho took over from Louis van Gaal.

However, the Argentina international has remained at United and has, to his credit, performed well after being relied on in recent matches with Mourinho without both Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling due to injuries.

Nevertheless, Mourinho is still expected to strengthen defensively and Rojo’s long-term future appears to be away from Old Trafford, with Leverkusen the frontrunners for his signature.

The Bundesliga giants are reportedly even prepared to give United all the money they paid Sporting to lure him away in the January transfer window.

Despite the fact Rojo’s inclusion in United teams has generally been seen as a negative among supporters, the team have actually got a better win rate (56.4%) with the Argentine in the starting XI compared to when he has not started (44%).
