Spurs target to pen new deal

Tottenham have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Michy Batshuayi with the Belgium international close to signing a new long-term deal with Marseille, according to L’Equipe.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are on the look out for a new striker to help ease the goalscoring burden on Harry Kane and have been regularly linked with a move for Batshuayi.

The 22-year-old, who still has four years left to run on his current deal, has been in sublime form since the start of the campaign and is not only being watched by Spurs, but a number of Premier League clubs.

However, Marseille are looking to ward off interest from other clubs with Batshuayi reportedly set to extend his deal by a further day in the coming days.

Since the start of the season only Zlatan Ibrahimovic (15) has scored more goals than Batshuayi (11) in Ligue 1 this season.
