Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly signed a pre-contract to take over as Manchester United manager, according to Spanish publication El Pais.
The Portuguese boss has been out of work since being relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge back in December.
United have been heavily linked with Mourinho as a potential replacement for under pressure Louis van Gaal, who is expected to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Reports on the day of the Manchester Derby are unlikely to help Van Gaal's cause, but with United playing for nothing more than pride this season, the club's hierarchy believe a change in the summer is needed.
Mourinho carries the required pedigree to re-establish United as one of the Premier League's top teams, with the Manchester side hoping to confirm his appointment as early in the summer as possible as they look to re-build.
