Everton manager Ronald Koeman is keen to strengthen his midfield options this summer with the signature of £20m-rated Ajax captain Davy Klaassen, reports The Daily Mirror.
Koeman was in attendance at the Estadi John Cruyff to watch Ajax’s scintillating 4-1 win over Lyon in the first-leg of their Europa League last week and the Everton manager kept a close eye on the performance of their skipper.
The Toffees are expected to spend heavily in the summer and Koeman is ready to give the greenlight to a £20m move Klaassen as he looks add quality to advanced areas of the pitch to ease the burden on Romelu Lukaku.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed another fine season at the heart of Ajax’s midfield and continues to prove a real goalscoring threat, even from deeper positions. The Netherlands international has reached double figures for goals in three of the last four seasons in the Eredivisie but has also been extremely creative in that time too.
In fact, in the last four Eredivisie campaigns only Hakim Ziyech (95) and Luuk de Jong (79) have scored or assisted more goals than Klaassen (71).
