Barcelona eye move for Croatian veteran in January

Barcelona will ramp up their interest in Shakhtar Donetsk right-back Darijo Srna when the January transfer window re-opens in a bid to fix their problems at right-back, according to AS.

Luis Enrique’s side have struggled to fill the void at right-back since Dani Alves’ departure last summer and the Barcelona manager is keen to bolster that side of the defence in the January transfer window.

Academy product Sergi Roberto has been tasked at filling in at right-back this season and has done well on the most part, although there is a lack of sufficient cover behind him.

The reigning La Liga champions were interested in re-signing Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin, but the Spaniard has recently signed a new long-term deal with the Gunners ending their interest in their former player.

With Aleix Vidal set to leave in January following a disastrous time at the club, Barcelona are reportedly now weighing up a move for experienced defender Srna.

The 34-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to one of Europe’s top leagues in the past and the Shakhtar captain could finally secure his move.

Srna is the highest rated defender in the Europa League this season (7.97), with no defender registering more assists (2) in the competition.
