Fekir faces long injury layoff

Lyon will be without star forward Nabil Fekir for at least six months after the 22-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee whilst on international duty.

Fekir was forced off in the early moments of France’s 1-0 win over Portugal on Friday and is set to undergo surgery on his knee immediately before embarking on the long road to recovery.

The Lyon forward has started the season in sensational fashion and his early form was enough for Didier Deschamps to grant him his first international start.

The news comes as huge blow to Hubert Fournier’s ambitions for the season ahead. Fekir has scored at least two goals than anyone else in Ligue 1 (4) this season and only Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva (8.30) has a higher WhoScored rating in France’s top-flight of player to have featured in the first four league games of the 2015/16 campaign.
