Bayern star gives Memphis his United backing

Netherlands international Arjen Robben has asked Manchester United to give Memphis time to save his career at Old Trafford.

Memphis, 22, has been one of the flops of the season in the Premier League since making the £25m move from PSV last summer.

The Netherlands international has reportedly held make or break talks with United manager Louis van Gaal in recent weeks as he looks to save his Old Trafford career after just 12 months.

However, Bayern Munich winger Robben has hailed Memphis as a huge talent and has urged the Old Trafford chiefs to give him time.

“He’s a very talented player, but you can’t underestimate how big a step it is up to the Premier League, and especially to a big club like Man United,” Robben told Match of the Day Magazine, via Football Oranje.

“He’s still very young – you have to give him some time. The talent is there – he’s got everything that he needs to be a success in England.”

Memphis has only scored two league goals in 27 appearances for United this season and is yet to register an assist. His last league goal came back in November (vs Watford) and he is United’s lowest rated player in the league from those to have made more than five appearances (6.39).
