Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe has agreed to join Bournemouth on a free transfer this summer, reports Sky Sports.
The England international has a clause in his contract allowing him to depart the Stadium of Light for nothing in the wake of the club’s relegation to the Championship.
West Ham saw a number of bids for the 34-year-old rejected in January, though the Hammers look to have missed out on the striker.
Defoe is believed to have agreed a three-year deal worth £65,000-a-week and will now undergo a medical with the Cherries ahead of his move to Bournemouth, where he spent a spell on loan during the earlier stages of his career, bagging 18 league goals in that time.
Without the striker’s goals, Sunderland would have been relegated before April, with Defoe netting 15 of their 29 Premier League goals this season.
Eddie Howe had been in the market for another striker following Callum Wilson’s knee injury, with Defoe the ideal option for the Bournemouth boss.
