Burnley lodge £3m move for Stoke forward

Burnley have tabled a bid worth up to £3m for Stoke City forward Jon Walters, reports The Daily Mail.

Walters, 33, wants regular playing time next season after struggling to cement his place in the starting XI under Mark Hughes last term.

The Ireland international will have less than 12 months remaining on his existing deal at the end of the month and Burnley are hopeful of prizing him away from the Potters by offering him regular first-team football.

Walters is open to extending his stay at Stoke having spent the last seven years at the club, but will want to seek assurances on playing time before making a decision on his future.

Sean Dyche is keen to bolster his offensive options at Burnley after missing out on the Crystal Palace job and is hopeful that Walters’ experience can help the club improve on a measly total of 39 league goals last season.

Despite not being an eye-catching player, Walters has been a regular contributor for Stoke down the years. In fact, the experienced forward is Stoke’s record goalscorer in Premier League competitions (43).
