Manchester United target dropped for second successive Premier League game

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has dropped Danny Rose from his matchday squad for the second Premier League game in a row, intensifying talk of a January exit.

Rose was reportedly left seething with Pochettino’s decision to axe him from the squad for Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat against fierce rivals Arsenal last weekend.

The 27-year-old caused a stir during the summer after hitting out at the club’s recruitment strategy and Pochettino was forced to deny falling out with the England international earlier this week.

Rose was drafted back into the starting XI for Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in midweek but has been dropped altogether for the reception of West Brom on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Rose as Jose Mourinho looks to solve his woes at left-back and the United boss will have been given greater encouragement following Rose’s latest omission.

Coincidentally, Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw have all been left out of the United squad for their home match against Brighton and it’s an area of the team where Mourinho will certainly address in the next two transfer windows.

A serious knee injury has limited Rose’s involvement in 2017 but he finished last season as the highest WhoScored rated left-back (7.42).
