Chelsea outcast signs for Bremen

Werder Bremen have confirmed they have signed Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji on loan for the remainder of the season.

Djilobodji, 28, joined Chelsea on the last day of the transfer window in the summer but has only featured in one minute for the Premier League champions.

His sole appearance for the Blues came in the dying embers of their League Cup win over Walsall in September.

The Senegal international’s arrival came at a shock, particularly when they were chasing John Stones for £40m at the time, with Jose Mourinho signing the defender on a recommendation for £2.7m.

Bremen will resume the Bundesliga in the relegation play-off position when the winter break ends this window and will have been working tirelessly on solidifying their back line.

In fact, only Stuttgart (37) having conceded more goals in the first-half of the Bundesliga than Bremen (32) this season.
