Ancelotti plays down rumours over reunion with Real Madrid star

Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has played down reports linking the Bundesliga champions with a move for Real Madrid sensation Gareth Bale.

The Welshman moved to the Bernabeu for a then-world record fee of £85m in 2013, a fee that was trumped by Paul Pogba’s switch to Manchester United last summer, and played under Ancelotti for two years before the Italian’s departure.

Bayern face Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final match up next week in what is arguably the tie of the round.

As Bayern gear up for their midweek meeting with Hoffenheim, however, Ancelotti has cooled rumours that his side will move for the Wales international.

“Bale is a very good player, but these rumours are a myth,” Ancelotti is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“Today we are focused on our game, we have no time to think about these myths.”

Bale has missed much of the season through injury, but has still netted seven goals and registered a further two assists in 17 league appearances.
