Manchester United target admits he could leave Paris Saint-Germain
Manchester United have been given encouragement in their pursuit of Blaise Matuidi after the midfielder hinted his future could be away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Matuidi came close to joining Juventus in January and has been heavily linked with a move away from PSG all season.
The 30-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his existing PSG deal and hinted after their French Cup final win on Saturday that he has reservations over whether he will still be at the club next season.
“I don’t know yet,” The Independent quote Matuidi as saying. “I am feeling good in Paris. It’s hard as you don’t know the real position of the club.
“PSG made a proposition to me. They are open to everything when it comes to me. There is no decision taken so far. Honestly, I don’t want to lie. I don’t know yet.
“I am feeling good in Paris. Even if in the future I should leave, Paris stays the club of my heart and it would always be like that.”
Jose Mourinho is keen to add more experience to his side after securing United’s place back in the Champions League for next season and Matuidi has been earmarked as the ideal, ready-made, midfielder that can provide the squad with a short-term boost.
The United manager is keen to sign midfielders that can help bring the best out of Paul Pogba and is hopeful a reunion with his international teammate, even though Matuidi's place in the France team has often been thought as a hinderance to Pogba, could help the world’s most expensive player kick on next season.
Since August 2009, only Maxime Gonalons (865) has made more tackles in Ligue 1 than Matuidi (721).
