Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed he will not stand in Morgan Schneiderlin’s way of leaving the club after he requested a transfer next month.
Schneiderlin, 27, has been heavily linked with a move away from United next month after failing to make any impression on Mourinho this season, with Everton and West Brom rumoured to be interested in his services.
Speculation about his exit from United intensified earlier this week when West Brom reportedly submitted a bid in the region of £13-18m for his services and Mourinho has confirmed he will be allowed to leave in January if the price is right.
“Yeah. Yeah. Great professional. Fantastic boy, very honest, very open and he opened his heart a couple of time and my answer is simple: if he’s playing regular with me I have a right to say no way, if he’s not playing regular I have no right to tell a player that if he wants to be happy you’re going no where,” Manchester Evening News quote Mourinho as saying when asked about Schneiderlin’s future.
“So my answer was if the offer is right and our board thinks the offer is a good offer in relation to a very good player like Morgan I would not stop him to go.”
The France international, who has dropped out of contention with the national team since joining Untied from Southampton for £25m last year, has not started a Premier League game this season and has only featured in 11 minutes of action from the bench in the league this season.
His failure to make any impression at United since joining has been a particular disappointment among some supporters. In fact, United have a bigger win rate in the league with Schneiderlin in the starting XI (56%) compared to just 43.3% without him since the start of last season.
