Shanghai SIPG manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is ready to test Wayne Rooney’s resolve to remain in the Premier League by offering the England international a mega-money move to China, reports the Sunday Mirror.
Rooney’s first-team opportunities have been limited in recent weeks, with Jose Mourinho relegating his captain to the bench for the Premier League, though he did start Manchester United’s recent 4-1 Europa League win over Fenerbahce.
The Swede will again make the proposal in the New Year as he looks to convince 30-year-old to end his playing days in the Far East.
An offer of £500,000 a week, coupled with commercial bonuses, was made to Rooney and his advisors a little under a year ago.
Rooney opted against moving to China at the time, but a lack of first team action in recent weeks suggests the attacker could be tempted to depart Old Trafford should Eriksson convince the board to return for the Englishman.
Another option for Rooney could be a switch to MLS, though any franchise would struggle to match any financial offer made by the Chinese Super League side.
