Southampton interested in former Manchester City striker

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino will attempt to coax Monaco striker Stevan Jovetic back to the Premier League in January to help fix the Saints’ woes in front of goal, claims The Daily Mirror.

Pellegrino’s side have only found the back of the net nine times in 11 Premier League matches so far this season and the Southampton manager intends to dip into the January transfer market for a new striker.

Manolo Gabbiadini, Shane Long and Charlie Austin have all failed to impress Pellegrino and now he wants to sign former Manchester City striker Jovetic, who only joined Monaco over the summer.

Jovetic is reportedly unhappy at Monaco after only starting three league games all season and Pellegrino is hopeful of taking advantage of the situation to land the 28-year-old.

The Montenegro international has bounced around Europe in recent years after failing to settle at Sevilla and Inter following his departure from City on a permanent basis in 2016.

Only Crystal Palace (2.2%) have a worse conversation rate than Southampton (5.7%) in the Premier League this season, although it remains to be seen whether a striker that has scored 13 league goals in the last three seasons is the man to solve their woes.
