Team News

Kilmarnock
St. Mirren
  • Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes named an unchanged Killie team after they clinched an emphatic 4-0 Boxing Day battering of Aberdeen in Ayrshire, before they lost by a sole goal to in-form Hibernian in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon.
  • Robby McCrorie continued in goal at Easter Road. Corrie Ndaba, Joe Wright and Lewis Mayo continued in the Killie backline. Danny Armstrong was sent off against Hibs on the right hand side, as Fraser Murray continued on the left.
  • Liam Polworth, David Watson and Brad Lyons were the trio chosen in midfield. Kyle Vassell was joined by Bobby Wales in attack as Bruce Anderson and Innes Cameron, who both scored against Aberdeen, were sat amongst the substitutes.
  • St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson named just one change to the Saints team that clinched a late 2-1 victory over Rangers in Paisley on Boxing Day, before a home defeat to Dundee by the same scoreline on Sunday.
  • Ellery Balcombe continued in goal behind Alex Iacovitti, who replaced Richard Taylor, Alex Gogic and Marcus Fraser in the Buddies' backline. Elvis Bwomono and Declan John started at right wing-back and left wing-back respectively.
  • Oisin Smyth accompanied Killian Phillips in midfield to cope with the absence of club captain Mark O'Hara. Roland Idowu joined Greg Kiltie in support of lone striker Toyosi Olusanya, who scored for Saints in the defeat to Dundee.

Prediction

  • Both Kilmarnock and St Mirren are looking to put disappointing defeats that concluded 2024 behind them in their first Scottish Premiership fixture of 2025.
  • Kilmarnock's rotten record at Easter Road continued as Killie are now winless in 11 Scottish Premiership visits to Hibernian, having lost their last six in a row and having failed to score in their last five meetings with the Hibees in Edinburgh. However, after an emphatic victory over Aberdeen in their last home match, Killie will want to bounce back against St Mirren having rescued a draw in Paisley in the last league meeting between the two teams.
  • St Mirren had won three straight Scottish Premiership matches in December after losing by a sole goal to Motherwell, which has seen them ascend up the Scottish Premiership table. Confidence was high heading into their match against Dundee - who they have a decent recent record against in Paisley - before their disappointing defeat. They lost 5-2 in their last visit to Rugby Park, so are under no illusions as to how tough a test this will be.
  • Kilmarnock have won as many matches at home as St Mirren have away in the league this season, but could go within three points of the Buddies with a win to kick off the new calendar year.
