Team News

Celtic
St. Mirren
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named three changes to the Celts side that smashed St Johnstone to conclude 2024 with a 4-0 win, before a rare derby day defeat as they lost 3-0 to Rangers at Ibrox to kick off 2025 in the worst possible way.
  • Kasper Schmeichel continued in goal behind Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales at the heart of the Hoops' defence. Greg Taylor replaced Alex Valle at left-back, as Alistair Johnston remained at right-back.
  • Club captain Callum McGregor joined Reo Hatate and Paulo Bernardo in midfield at Arne Engels' expense. Hyun-Jun Yang was replaced by Daizen Maeda, as he and Nicolas Kuhn supported lone striker Kyogo Furuhashi in attack.
  • St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson named three changes to the Saints team lost 2-1 at home to Dundee in Paisley, before defeat on the road as they lost 2-0 to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in their first league fixture of 2025.
  • Ellery Balcombe continued in goal behind the incoming Richard Taylor, Alex Gogic and Alex Iacovitti in the Buddies' backline. Elvis Bwomono and Declan John were replaced by Marcus Fraser and Scott Tanser at right wing-back and left wing-back respectively.
  • Oisin Smyth accompanied Killian Phillips in midfield as club captain Mark O'Hara was back on the bench post-injury. Roland Idowu supported Jonah Ayunga and Toyosi Olusanya in attack with Greg Kiltie dropping onto the bench.

Prediction

  • Both Celtic and St Mirren are looking to put disappointing defeats in midweek behind them, as they meet in the Scottish Premiership at Parkhead on Sunday afternoon.
  • Defeat on derby day hasn't been too familiar a feeling for Celtic in recent seasons, as the Hoops were undefeated in four trips to Ibrox before their midweek mauling at the hands of old rivals Rangers. The league leaders had only lost their opening league game of a calendar year in one of the last 27 years, although that was a sole-goal defeat to the Gers at Ibrox back in 2021.
  • St Mirren's rotten recent record versus Kilmarnock continued, with the Buddies winless in ten Scottish Premiership meetings with Killie since a 2-0 win in February 2021. Saints haven't won a top-tier match at Rugby Park in over a decade, last doing so thanks to a 3-1 victory in May 2013. Having lost 3-0 to Celtic in Paisley back in August, their task to get back to winning ways is tough.
  • Celtic will feel disappointed and distressed after their derby day defeat and, having won 4-0 in their last two league games at Parkhead, St Mirren may feel the full effect of that.
