Team News

Aberdeen
Ross County
  • Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin named four changes to the Dons team that suffered a Boxing Day battering at the hands of Kilmarnock as they lost 4-0 at Rugby Park, before a late loss to Dundee United in a sole goal defeat at Tannadice.
  • Dimitar Mitov continued in goal, as Gavin Molly returned to partner Slobodan Rubezic at the heart of the Dons defence at Angus MacDonald's expense. Nicky Devlin and Jack MacKenzie continued at right-back and left-back respectively.
  • Club captain Graeme Shinnie made way for Ante Palaversa to partner Sivert Nilsen in front of the back four. Leighton Clarkson took Duk's place, in the middle of Jamie McGrath and Topi Keskinen in support of lone striker Ester Sokler. Peter Ambrose dropped onto the bench in Dundee.
  • Ross County boss Don Cowie made just one change after the Staggies' wonderful 3-0 win over Dundee at Dens Park on Boxing Day, before two late goals saw them steal a dramatic 2-2 draw in Dingwall with relegation rivals Hearts at the weekend.
  • Jordan Amissah continued in goal behind an unchanged back three of Ryan Leak, Kacper Lopata and Akil Wright. George Harmon continued at left wing-back, with Michee Efete again chosen at right wing-back.
  • Aidan Denholm was ineligible to face his parent club, so Joshua Nisbet - who scored on Sunday - joined Connor Randall, Noah Chilvers and Jack Grieves in the middle of the park. Ronan Hale started as the sole striker, before substitute Jordan White grabbed the late leveller for County.

Prediction

  • Third top hosts third bottom in the Scottish Premiership, as Aberdeen and Ross County go head-to-head at Pittodrie to kick off 2025.
  • The Dons' rancid recent record against newly-promoted opposition continued, as Aberdeen are winless in their last nine matches against teams to have been promoted from the Scottish Championship thanks to Dundee United leaving it late at Tannadice. Three consecutive defeats in their final league match of the calendar year isn't as concerning as no victory in eight league games.
  • Ross County will be pleased with the fight shown in their festive fixtures, as an impressive victory against Dundee at Dens Park - their first away league victory in over a year - was succeeded by a dramatic draw in Dingwall against fellow strugglers Hearts in the Highlands. Five points clear of bottom spot, momentum could continue to build if they won at Pittodrie for the first time since April 2022.
  • Despite Ross County's recent upturn in form, Aberdeen will want to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later and - having snuck past the Staggies in their last Dingwall and Pittodrie meetings - the Dons will want to kick off 2025 with a victory.
