Team News

Hearts
Aberdeen
  • Hearts boss Neil Critchley named three changes after the Jambos were hammered at home by Celtic in a 4-1 defeat at Tynecastle last weekend, before they were beaten in Belgium by Cercle Brugge 2-0 in their Europa Conference League match.
  • Craig Gordon continued in goal behind a back four of Adam Forrester (who replaced Daniel Oyegoke at right-back), Frankie Kent, Kye Rowles and James Penrice. Malachi Boateng and Cammy Devlin continued in midfield.
  • Beni Baningime moved onto the bench, as Yan Dhanda was handed a start in midweek. The incoming Kenneth Vargas - in for Blair Spittal - and Alan Forrest looked to support sole striker Lawrence Shankland in the Jambos' frontline.
  • Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin named three changes to the Dons team that recorded their first Scottish Premiership defeat this season in a 2-1 loss to St Mirren. in Paisley, before a mental midweek match where they drew 3-3 with Hibs.
  • Dimitar Mitov continued in goal behind the unchanged back four of Jack MacKenzie, Gavin Molloy, Slobodan Rubezic and Nicky Devlin. Sivert Nilsen joined club captain Graeme Shinnie in midfield at Easter Road on Tuesday night.
  • Two changes came in the wide areas as Duk and Topi Keskinen replaced Leighton Clarkson and Shayden Morris. That duo joined Jamie McGrath in support of lone striker Kevin Nisbet, who took Ester Sokler's place in the Aberdeen attack.

Prediction

  • Last season's 'best of the rest' host the side that pipped them to third place the season before last, as Hearts take on Aberdeen at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon.
  • The Jambos are 23 points off the pace, as they trail the second-placed Dons following a disastrous start to the Scottish Premiership season, but will perhaps feel as though they were unfortunate to lose up at Pittodrie in the earlier league meeting between the two teams. Their midweek match in Bruges highlighted Hearts' struggles in front of goal, and they're also conceding goals aplenty.
  • Aberdeen are winless in two Scottish Premiership matches, after their opening 11 unbeaten games produced ten victories. The Dons thought they'd nicked a last-gasp win in Edinburgh against Hibs on Tuesday, as their mental midweek match at Easter Road saw three injury-time goals. Having failed to bounce back after defeat to St Mirren, they're in search of a rare win at Tynecastle.
  • Both teams are looking to get over their midweek misery but, whilst Hearts usually beat Aberdeen in Edinburgh and the Dons get the better of the Jambos up north, unwanted records are there to be broken.
