Team News

Dundee United
Celtic
  • Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin named one enforced change to the Terrors team that succumbed to a late leveller in their 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at Tannadice, before they lost a seven goal thriller 4-3 to Motherwell at Fir Park.
  • Jack Walton continued in goal behind a back three of Kevin Holt, Declan Gallagher and Emmanuel Adegboyega. Glenn Middleton took the suspended Will Ferry's place at left wing-back as Ryan Strain continued at right wing-back.
  • David Babunski and Vicko Sevelj were given the nod in the middle of the park once more. Luca Stephenson supported a strike duo of Sam Dalby and Louis Moult, who is facing a scan as a result of a shoulder injury he sustained last Saturday.
  • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers named an unchanged Celts side after their goalless draw against Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, before they won the Scottish League Cup on penalty kicks after a 3-3 thriller against Rangers on Sunday.
  • Kasper Schmeichel continued in goal behind a back four of Greg Taylor, Auston Trusty, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston. Reo Hatate, club captain Callum McGregor and Paulo Bernardo made up the midfield trio once again.
  • Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kühn - who both scored in the cup classic inside 90 minutes - were in support of lone striker Kyogo Furuhashi at Hampden, as the Hoops won the first domestic trophy of the season in Scotland.

Prediction

  • Dundee United host Celtic in Scottish Premiership action for the first time since January 2023, as the two teams go toe-to-toe at Tannadice on Sunday at lunchtime.
  • Dundee United lost three consecutive Scottish Premiership meetings against Motherwell for the first time since September 2009, after coming out on the wrong side of a seven goal thriller at Fir Park against the Well. That brought an end to the Terrors' longest unbeaten run, of five games, in the Scottish top tier since February 2022 but tests don't get much tougher to bounce back in.
  • League leaders Celtic ticked off the first of their domestic honours this season, albeit not perhaps in the fashion that they'd have imagined or liked, as they aim for another treble of trophies. The Hoops are in a great place domestically, winning 14 of their 15 league matches so far, and continentally as there is a real chance of progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
  • After their success at the national stadium against their city rivals, Celtic are on a real high so should find a way to get the better of Dundee United on Sunday afternoon.
