Team News

Rangers
Hearts
  • Rangers boss Philippe Clement made three changes from the Gers came from behind to beat Motherwell 2-1 in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, before a 1-1 draw in Greece away to Olympiakos in the Europa League on Thursday night.
  • Goalkeeper Jack Butland took the armband, as James Tavernier made way for Dujon Sterling to start at right-back. Robin Propper replaced Leon Balogun to partner John Souttar in defence, as Jefte continued at left-back.
  • Connor Barron and Nico Raskin sat in front of the back four, with the injured Tom Lawrence being replaced by Mohamed Diomande. Nedim Bajrami and Vaclav Cerny supported Cyriel Dessers up front, who netted their midweek equaliser.
  • Hearts boss Neil Critchley named two changes after the Jambos beat St Johnstone 2-1 at McDiarmid Park last Saturday afternoon, before they lost 2-0 to FC Heidenheim at Tynecastle in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.
  • Craig Gordon continued in goal behind Frankie Kent and Stephen Kingsley, who took Kye Rowles' place. Adam Forrester replaced Daniel Oyegoke's place at right-back in the only other alteration with James Penrice remaining at left-back.
  • Malachi Boateng and Beni Baningime were given the nod in the middle of the park. Yan Dhanda, Blair Spittal and Alan Forrest were the trio in support of Lawrence Shankland, who has scored just once for the Jambos so far this season.

Prediction

  • Both Rangers and Hearts meet on Sunday evening at Ibrox after both teams were looking to fly the flag for Scotland in Europe on Thursday night.
  • The Gers booked their place in the Scottish League Cup final, as they look to defend the domestic trophy that they won last year, before picking up a point in a gruelling test in Greece against Europa Conference League holders Olympiakos in midweek. Now nine points behind both Celtic and Aberdeen, the pressure is growing on Rangers to make up ground in the Scottish Premiership.
  • Hearts recorded just their second Scottish Premiership victory of the season last weekend, as they beat St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Saints became the first team that the Jambos have won four successive away games against in the top tier since Dunfermline Athletic from 2006 to 2012. Having gone toe-to-toe with Rangers at Tynecastle in August, they'd love to go one better here.
  • Despite these two teams playing out a goalless draw on the opening day, Hearts' record against Rangers is woeful, so the Gers should get the better of the Jambos despite the travel and potential fatigue.
