Team News

St. Johnstone
Hearts
  • Simo Valakari named one change to the Saints side that were victorious in his long-awaited dugout debut which ended in a 2-1 Tayside derby victory over Dundee at Dens Park, before a 3-1 defeat to St Mirren in their midweek match.
  • Kyle Cameron replaced the injured Andre Raymond at left-back to join Jack Sanders, Lewis Neilson - who is ineligible to face his parent club this weekend - and Drey Wright in the back four behind Ross Sinclair in goal.
  • Jason Holt remained alongside Matt Smith and Sven Sprangler in the trio of midfielders that sat in front of the back four. Nicky Clark continued to support Benji Kimpioka and Adama Sidibeh up front.
  • Hearts boss Neil Critchley named two changes after the Jambos left it late to equalise in a 1-1 draw in the Edinburgh derby on Sunday, before they took the lead but lost 2-1 to Kilmarnock at Tynecastle in their midweek match.
  • Craig Gordon continued in goal behind Kye Rowles and Frankie Kent. Adam Forrester took Daniel Oyegoke's place at right-back with James Penrice remaining at left-back. Cammy Devlin partnered Malachi Boateng in the middle of the park.
  • Alan Forrest, who fired the Jambos ahead on Wednesday night against Killie, joined Blair Spittal in support of strike duo Kenneth Vargas and Lawrence Shankland as derby hero and teenage talent James Wilson was left on the bench.

Prediction

  • The team sat in ninth hosts the side rock bottom in 12th in one of two Scottish Premiership matches on Saturday as St Johnstone host Hearts at McDiarmid Park.
  • St Johnstone were feeling optimistic heading to Paisley for their midweek match after back-to-back victories in the Scottish Premiership, but it was a familiar feeling as they left Renfrewshire defeated by St Mirren on Wednesday night. Saints haven't beaten the Buddies at the SMISA Stadium since December 2018, but will want to get back to winning ways this weekend against Hearts.
  • The Jambos were left disappointed as, just like Saints, they took the lead in midweek before losing to Kilmarnock at Tynecastle as Killie's excellent record in Gorgie continued. Hearts lost 10 Scottish Premiership matches last season and what highlights their drop off is the fact that they've already lost seven so far this season. Pressure to pluck results out of thin air is beginning to build.
  • Both teams lost their lead in midweek, but if St Johnstone edge ahead of Hearts then it could be tricky for the Jambos to respond in order to salvage something against Saints.
