Team News

Motherwell
St. Mirren
  • Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell named an unchanged Steelmen side despite defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie, before they secured a spot in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over Dundee United at Fir Park last Friday night.
  • Aston Oxborough continued in goal behind an unchanged back three of Dan Casey, Liam Gordon and Paul McGinn. Stephen O'Donnell remained at right wing-back as Ewan Wilson kept his place on the left hand-side of midfield.
  • Davor Zdravkovski and Andy Halliday started in the middle of the park. Lennon Miller and Tawanda Maswanhise supported lone striker Zach Robinson. Tony Watt was ineligible to face his parent club, so the fit-again Apostolos Stamatelopoulos took his place on the bench.
  • St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson made just one change after Saints were held at home by Kilmarnock in a 2-2 draw, before they beat Hearts 2-1 in Paisley on their return to league action last Saturday.
  • An unchanged back three of Richard Taylor, Alex Gogic and Marcus Fraser were given the nod in front of Ellery Balcombe again. Jaden Brown started at left wing-back, with Shaun Rooney on the right-hand side.
  • The only alteration came in the middle of the park, as Killian Phillips took Roland Idowu's place to join club captain Mark O'Hara and Caolan Boyd-Munce in midfield. Mikael Mandron and Toyosi Olusanya lead the line for the Buddies once again.

Prediction

  • The side in sixth hosts the team in fifth, heading into this weekend's Scottish Premiership matches, as Motherwell and St Mirren lock horns at Fir Park on Saturday afternoon.
  • Motherwell left it late to book a trip to Hampden, as Lennon Miller's spot-kick secured a trip to the national stadium, where they'll face Rangers in the final four in the Scottish League Cup. A trophy would be a welcome distraction for the Well - particularly given they shouldn't find themselves in trouble at the wrong end of the table and will also try their hardest to be at the right end.
  • St Mirren arrested a poor recent record against Hearts as, before Saturday's victory in Paisley, they'd won just two of their previous 11 Scottish Premiership meetings with the Jambos. But now the Buddies have crept back up into the top half of the league table, the target is to stay there and hopefully get further flights in Europe booked by finishing in the European qualification places.
  • The last two meetings between Motherwell and St Mirren have ended in a draw, so a share of the spoils this Saturday wouldn't be a great surprise given both sides' positive results last weekend.
