Team News

WBA
Southampton
  • Carlos Corberan has a settled starting XI outside of the right-midfield and striker positions.
  • Expect Jed Wallace and Brandon Thomas-Asante to fill those roles, although Tom Fellows will be a factor from the bench.
  • Daryl Dike and Jayson Molumby are both set to miss the entire playoff campaign with long-term Achilles and foot injuries respectively.
  • Russell Martin trialled a 3-5-2 system on the final day against Leeds but will likely revert back to his tried and tested 4-3-3 for the play-offs.
  • With Stuart Armstrong sidelined through injury, Martin's midfield selection headache is reduced with Joe Aribo, Will Smallbone and Flynn Downes the most likely combination.

Prediction

  • West Brom's game against a free-falling Preston side couldn't have come at a better time as the Baggies ended a three-match losing streak in style, cruising to a 3-0 home win and boosting the mood at the Hawthorns ahead of this playoff clash. Carlos Corberan's side will feel confident here given their strong home record - the hosts have lost just two of their last 13 in front of their own fans.
  • Southampton restored some confidence heading into the playoffs after beating potential final opponents Leeds 2-1 at Elland Road on the final day. The Saints had lost three straight league games prior to that result in a similar vein to their hosts on Sunday, although Russell Martin will take plenty of encouragement from the fact that his side recorded 2-1 and 2-0 wins against the Baggies earlier this season.
