Team News

Celtic
St. Mirren
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named an unchanged Celts side after they swept Livingston aside 3-0 in West Lothian, before they drew 3-3 on derby day with Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday where they were two goals to the good at the interval.
  • Joe Hart was in goal - behind a back four containing Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor. Reo Hatate accompanied Tomoki Iwata and Matt O'Riley in midfield. Club captain Callum McGregor was only fit enough for the bench.
  • Daizen Maeda, who opened the scoring after less than 30 seconds, joined Nicholas Kuhn in support of Kyogo Furuhashi up front. Adam Idah scored against Rangers off the bench so may push for a start against Saints here.
  • Stephen Robinson named three changes to the St Mirren side that drew 1-1 with Motherwell at Fir Park upon their return to league action, before a 2-1 defeat at home to Hearts on Saturday afternoon in Paisley which still cemented top six.
  • Zach Hemming continued in goal with Alex Gogic and Marcus Fraser remaining in the Buddies' back three, joined by the incoming Richard Taylor who took James Bolton's spot. Scott Tanser remained at left wing-back.
  • Elvis Bwomono was given the nod at right wing-back, replacing Ryan Strain. Caolan Boyd-Munce carried on in midfield but was joined by Kwon Hyeok-Kyu, ineligible to face his parent club in Glasgow - as opposed to club captain Mark O'Hara.

Prediction

  • Celtic and St Mirren meet for the third of four Scottish Premiership meetings between the two teams, as Celtic fight for the league title and Saints secured top six last weekend.
  • The Hoops spurned a huge chance to claim back-to-back victories at Ibrox for the first time since winning four on the spin between December 2016 and March 2018 as, despite being two to the good at half-time, Rangers fought back to ensure the shares were spoiled on Glasgow derby day. Celtic are six wins, including the derby, away from a third consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
  • St Mirren's rotten recent record against Hearts in Paisley continued, given they have won just one of their last six meetings with the Jambos in Paisley, as Saints fell to defeat against the capital club at the weekend. However, defeats for both Dundee and Hibernian on Saturday - at home to Motherwell and St Johnstone - confirmed a second successive top-six berth for the Buddies.
  • Despite Saints sealing a top-six place and aiming for higher than fifth place, Celtic's priorities are greater than the Buddies' and they should respond from their derby disappointment accordingly.
