Team News

Motherwell
Aberdeen
  • Stuart Kettlewell named two changes to the Motherwell team that clinched a 3-1 win away to Livingston, before a shock 2-1 success at Ibrox against Rangers in their last league match the weekend before last.
  • Adam Devine was ineligible to face his parent club in Glasgow, so Shane Blaney took his spot at left wing-back. Andy Halliday was back on the bench against his former club after a period out through injury.
  • Sam Nicholson made his first start for the Steelmen and nodded home the Well's equaliser against Livi, but made way for Jack Vale to start against the Gers. He and Blair Spittal supported Theo Bair who fired the Well in front against the league leaders.
  • Interim Aberdeen boss Peter Leven took charge and named an unchanged Dons team after they booked their spot in the Scottish Cup semi-finals with a 3-1 win against Kilmarnock, before a sole-goal defeat to Dundee at Dens Park on Wednesday night.
  • Jack MacKenzie took Richard Jensen's place at left-back, joining Angus MacDonald, Stefan Gartenmann and Nicky Devlin in the unchanged back four.
  • Graeme Shinnie and Connor Barron continued in front of the Dons' defence.
  • Junior Hoilett and Killian Phillips were joined by Jamie McGrath - as opposed to Duk - in support of lone striker Bojan Miovski. Leighton Clarkson, the aforementioned Duk and Ester Sokler came off the bench but to no avail.

Prediction

  • Eight meets tenth as Motherwell take on Aberdeen at Fir Park, one steering away from a potential basement battle and the other looking nervously over their shoulder.
  • It was a wonderful win for the Well last time out, perhaps the Scottish Premiership result of the season so far, as they stunned league leaders Rangers to clinch a rare victory at Ibrox. Not since a 2-0 success in May 1997 had Motherwell beaten Rangers at their home, and it's the Steelmen's first league win against the Gers since December 2002 (both stats excluding Premiership playoffs).
  • As for Aberdeen, their fear of the dreaded drop increased after they lost away to Dundee by a sole goal on Wednesday night. Three points clear of Ross County, who they play at home before the month of March is over, pressure is beginning to pile up at Pittodrie. In an ideal world, they'll end an eleven-game run of Scottish Premiership matches without a win before they play the Staggies.
  • Despite having to wait around for a league match, Motherwell are off a huge high in their victory at Ibrox and will want to take care of an out-of-sorts Aberdeen side at Fir Park this weekend.
