Team News

Motherwell
Livingston
  • Stuart Kettlewell named an unchanged Motherwell team after the Well held St Mirren at home in a 0-0 draw in Paisley, before a Christmas Eve defeat to Rangers where they lost 2-0 at Fir Park.
  • Bevis Mugabi started alongside Shane Blaney and Stephen O'Donnell in the Steelmen's backline, as Georgie Gent and Brodie Spencer continued at left wing-back and right wing-back respectively.
  • Callum Slattery, Davor Zdravkovski and Harry Paton occupied the other positions in Motherwell's midfield. Blair Spittal supported the Steelmen's sole striker Mika Biereth in attack.
  • Davie Martindale named four changes to the Livingston team that saw Celtic sweep them aside on Saturday 2-0 at Parkhead, before their midweek match with St Johnstone ended in a goalless stalemate.
  • Shamal George replaced Jack Hamilton between the sticks. Ayo Obileye was the only defender to retain his place, as Mikey Devlin and Michael Nottingham took Tom Parkes and Luiyi De Lucas' places in the back three.
  • The only other alteration saw Jamie Brandon drop out, as Joel Nouble started at the unorthodox position of right wing-back. Kurtis Guthrie came back into the starting eleven, to partner Bruce Anderson in attack.

Prediction

  • A huge basement battle takes place at Fir Park, with 11th placed Motherwell hosting a Livingston side stuck at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table.
  • Motherwell equalled the unwanted record of a 15th consecutive Scottish Premiership match without a victory. The last team to go as long without a league win, in Scotland's top tier, was Partick Thistle from April to October 2017. This weekend is a golden opportunity for the Well to pick up a much-needed league win and open up a four-point gap on Livingston who would remain bottom.
  • Livingston picked up a point, but still can't find their shooting boots, following their midweek match at home to St Johnstone which ended goalless. The Lions have scored one goal in their last ten Scottish Premiership games, which put them ahead against Aberdeen before they lost 2-1. They haven't won away from home since August, but did beat Motherwell in West Lothian in October.
  • If Motherwell can't end their rotten recent run against a Livingston team that cannot score goals, using the incentive of moving seven points clear potentially, then they're in deep trouble.
