Team News

Ross County
Aberdeen
  • Ross County boss Derek Adams named two change to the Staggies side that lost late on to Dundee in Dingwall by a sole goal, before a 2-2 draw at Tynecastle against Hearts where they blew a two-goal lead on Saturday afternoon.
  • Will Nightingale dropped out of the County XI, as the Staggies shifted to a back four of James Brown, Jack Baldwin, Ryan Leak and Ben Purrington. That made way for Max Sheaf to make his first Scottish Premiership start in midfield.
  • Connor Randall made way for Josh Sims to start on the left hand side, with Yan Dhanda - who scored a stunning free-kick in Edinburgh - starting on the right. Jordan White and Simon Murray continued to start as the Staggies' strikers.
  • Aberdeen boss Barry Robson named two changes to the Dons team that came from behind to beat Livingston 2-1 at Pittodrie before Christmas, before they rounded off 2023 with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to St Mirren.
  • Slobodan Rubezic returned to the Dons defence, joining Richard Jensen and Stefan Gartenmann, at Angus MacDonald's expense. James McGarry and Nicky Devlin continued at left wing-back and right wing-back respectively.
  • Graeme Shinnie and Leighton Clarkson remained in the team. Jamie McGrath took Dante Polvara's spot, as the furthest forward of five midfielders, looking to support Duk and Bojan Miovski in the Aberdeen attack.

Prediction

  • Just a point separates Ross County in 11th and Aberdeen in ninth, both teams looking to ascend up the Scottish Premiership table in 2024.
  • The Staggies will be disheartened that they let a two-goal lead slip at Tynecastle, now without a win in three league matches. January sees some tough and important league matches to be played, alongside a Scottish Cup tie against lower league opposition. County will hope to take advantage of Aberdeen's recent woes and leapfrog the Dons with a victory, kicking off 2024 in style.
  • The Dons had won consecutive Scottish Premiership fixtures but rustiness appeared to show against St Mirren, with their festive schedule being interrupted with back-to-back postponements. There's still games in hand to be played for Aberdeen which, if they're victorious in a few, will see them move upwards in the league table but they'll hope wins come sooner rather than later.
  • Despite letting a great position slip on Saturday, Ross County will look to add to the Dons' displeasure and claim at least a point against Aberdeen.
