Team News

Rangers
St. Johnstone
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement named three changes from the Gers team that secured Europa League football after Christmas with an impressive 3-2 win over Real Betis, before they won the League Cup on Sunday afternoon at Hampden.
  • Leon Balogun returned to the Gers' back four, replacing Ben Davies to join the weekend matchwinner James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic as Rangers took on Aberdeen in the first final of the Scottish season.
  • Dujon Sterling and Todd Cantwell came into midfield, at Sam Lammers and the suspended Jose Cifuentes' expense. Abdallah Sima and Ross McCausland supported lone striker Cyriel Dessers at the national stadium.
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein named just one change to the Saints team that drew 1-1 with Motherwell at Fir Park, before they nicked victory over Hibernian at McDiarmid Park courtesy of a sole goal on Saturday afternoon.
  • Ryan McGowan, Liam Gordon and Luke Robinson appear to be the first-choice three man defence in front of Dimitar Mitov at present. 16-year-old Fran Franczak made his first senior Saints start in midfield, replacing Chris Kane.
  • Max Kucheriavyi replaced James Brown to start in the unorthodox position of right wing-back. Matt Smith and weekend matchwinner Graham Carey supported Diallang Jaiyesimi in attack.

Prediction

  • Both Rangers and St Johnstone were left delighted after a sole goal was enough to provide them with wins at the weekend.
  • The Gers won the first domestic honour of the 2023/24 season in Scotland, ending a 12-year wait for the Scottish League Cup, as a James Tavernier strike proved enough against Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon. After Celtic's shock home defeat to Hearts, it was pretty much a near-perfect weekend for Rangers who can close the gap to two points at the top with a win in this one.
  • St Johnstone will want to stop the hosts in their tracks, as they look to pull away from the chasing pack. 10th-placed Aberdeen take on Livingston in 12th, as Saints head to Ibrox, so they shouldn't fall too far down the table with a defeat. However, a point could prove pivotal as they aim to keep climbing the Scottish Premiership table and away from a potential basement battle.
  • Should Rangers win the two games in hand that they have on Celtic, they will overtake the Hoops and become league leaders so it's a tricky task for St Johnstone to stop the buoyant hosts here.
