Team News

Aberdeen
Rangers
  • Aberdeen boss Barry Robson named four changes to the Dons team that drew 2-2 with PAOK in Greece in their Europa Conference League group stage game, before Celtic smashed them 6-0 at Parkhead prior to the international break.
  • Stefan Gartenmann, Slobodan Rubezic and Richard Jensen continued in the Dons defence as the back three, with Jack MacKenzie and Nicky Devlin starting at left and right wing-back respectively.
  • Three changes came in midfield as Jonny Hayes, Leighton Clarkson and Dante Polvara replaced Connor Barron, Jamie McGrath and Ryan Duncan. Bojan Miovski lead the line in Glasgow at Duk's expense.
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement named four changes from the Gers team that beat Sparta Prague 2-1 at Ibrox in their Europa League group match, before a 2-0 win away at Livingston prior to the international break.
  • Jack Butland remained between the sticks. James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic continued in defence, alongside Leon Balogun who isn't in the Gers' European squad for their Europa League campaign but took Ben Davies' place.
  • John Lundstram and Ryan Jack sat in front of the back four again. Abdallah Sima, Tom Lawrence - who replaced Todd Cantwell - and Ross McCausland supported Cyriel Dessers up front. Sam Lammers and Danilo dropped to the bench.

Prediction

  • Sunday's sole Scottish Premiership match is a dress rehearsal of the 2023/24 Scottish League Cup final, as Aberdeen host Rangers at Pittodrie.
  • Celtic swept aside a sorry Aberdeen team in Glasgow, perhaps suffering from a European hangover, before the Dons broke up for the international break. Whilst they've given a great account of themselves continentally, they are suffering domestically as a result. The hosts won at Ibrox in September but haven't won back-to-back league meetings with the Gers since September 1993.
  • Rangers lost their last league meeting away to Aberdeen in April, but not since February 2006 have they lost in consecutive trips to Pittodrie. In six away league games, they've conceded just one goal on the road this season. Phillipe Clement has transformed the Gers' fortunes and could become the fourth Rangers manager in history to win his first five top-flight matches as Gers boss.
  • Rangers will be expected to match or better Celtic's result on Saturday. If they focus on their own job, they should leave Aberdeen with all three points here despite the Dons' best efforts.
