Team News

St. Mirren
Rangers
  • Stephen Robinson named three changes to the St Mirren side that crashed out of the Scottish League Cup after losing 4-2 to Hibernian at Easter Road, before the Buddies bounced back with a 1-1 draw away to Kilmarnock last weekend.
  • Charles Dunne took Richard Taylor's place in the Saints back three, to join Alex Gogic and Marcus Fraser in defence. Keanu Baccus replaced Caolan Boyd-Munce to accompany club captain Mark O'Hara in midfield.
  • And in attack, lone striker Mikael Mandron was supported by Greg Kiltie and the incoming Conor McMenamin - who took Toyosi Olusanya's spot - as the Buddies changed their formation slightly offensively.
  • Interim Rangers manager Steven Davis named three changes to the Gers team that was humiliated at home 3-1 by Aberdeen at Ibrox, before they tasted defeat in Cyprus losing 2-1 away to Aris Limassol in their Europa League match midweek.
  • Ridvan Yilmaz isn't in the European squad, so Borna Barisic took his place at left-back. Nicolas Raskin started at Ryan Jack's expense to join John Lundstram in midfield. Sam Lammers also dropped back into the midfield trio.
  • Jose Cifuentes made way for Scott Wright, who was sent off in the Aberdeen defeat, to make his first start in Europe this season. Abdallah Sima - who netted the Gers' consolation goal in midweek - continued to support Cyriel Dessers in attack.

Prediction

  • Second place hosts third, heading into this weekend's Scottish Premiership matches, as St Mirren host Rangers on Sunday lunchtime in Paisley.
  • St Mirren are one of only two teams that are undefeated in Scotland's top tier so far this season, alongside league leaders Celtic. Saints' only domestic defeats in the current campaign have come at the hands of Montrose and Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup. They lost three of four league meetings with Rangers last season, but were six minutes away from beating them in November.
  • Rangers decided to part company with Michael Beale after Aberdeen's weekend win at Ibrox, sat seven points behind Celtic after seven games. Despite winning their Europa League opener against Real Betis, they fell to defeat away to Aris Limassol on Thursday. While there's a whole host of names linked with the Ibrox hotseat, they must get back to winning ways domestically.
  • St Mirren ran out of steam when they last played Rangers in Paisley towards the end of last season, but the Buddies have a huge chance to move six points ahead of the Gers if they clinch a win in this one.
