Team News

Rangers
Livingston
  • Rangers manager Michael Beale named three changes from the Gers team that lost 1-0 to Kilmarnock on the opening day at Rugby Park, before they responded by sneaking past Swiss side Servette 2-1 in Champions League qualifying at Ibrox.
  • Their skipper James Tavernier fired them ahead from the penalty spot in midweek. Ryan Jack and Todd Cantwell entered the midfield trio for their first leg on Wednesday night, replacing John Lundstram and Kieran Dowell from the Killie loss.
  • Danilo joined Sam Lammers in support of Cyriel Dessers, who netted the second goal in their midweek match, as the Brazilian replaced Brighton loanee Abdallah Sima in attack.
  • Davie Martindale named four changes after Livi concluded their League Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory against Clyde in West Lothian before shutting out Aberdeen in a 0-0 stalemate at the Tony Macaroni Arena on the opening day.
  • Luiyi de Lucas replaced Tom Parkes, to join Ayo Obileye and Mikey Devlin, in the trio of centre-backs. Jamie Brandon took James Penrice's place at right wing-back. Jason Holt and Andrew Shinnie kept their places in the middle of the park.
  • Joel Nouble and Mo Sangare replaced Bruce Anderson - who netted the winner against the Bully Wee in their final group stage game - and Stephen Kelly, in support of lone striker Kurtis Guthrie.

Prediction

  • Rangers and Livingston meet at Ibrox, with both sides looking to claim their first victory of the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership season.
  • The Gers slipped to an opening day defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, their first loss on the opening day - in the top tier - since losing to Hearts at Tynecastle in August 1998. The consolation is that there's 37 games to go in the Scottish Premiership, starting with Livingston. They'll hope that a win here, perhaps coupled with Champions League qualification, can kickstart their campaign.
  • Livi have been dealt a tough hand with their opening fixtures. The stalemate with Aberdeen gives them a point and a base to build upon but that doesn't overlook the fact that they're up against it when kicking off this season. Despite losing their season opener to Rangers last season, they claimed a point at Ibrox in October where they were denied all three by an injury-time goal.
  • Despite Livingston's best efforts in Glasgow's west end last season, pressure is already mounting on Rangers who will look to continue winning games both domestically and continentally.
