Team News

Getafe
Barcelona
  • New signing Choco Lozano will provide an extra attacking option for manager José Bordalás; main striker Enes Ünal is still out with a serious ACL injury.
  • Omar Alderete, signed permanently from Hertha BSC for €4m, will strengthen Getafe's defence this season. He should start on Sunday evening.
  • Carles Aleñá, who recently scored from midfield in pre-season, should come in to the starting XI to replace the injured Mauro Arambarri.
  • Ilkay Gündogan will make his debut for Barcelona on Sunday after signing from Manchester City on a free this summer.
  • Frank Kessié definitely will not feature - he is on the verge of signing for Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.
  • Iñigo Martínez is yet to train with the first team. The centre-back signed on a free from Athletic Club to replace the retired Gerard Piqué, but is suffering with a foot injury.

Prediction

  • The last time both sides met in La Liga, the hosts were able to hold the Blaugrana to a 0-0 draw; both sides go into the new season having won their final game in pre-season.
  • Getafe's long serving centre-back, Djené Dakonam, could be used by Jose Bordalas as a holding midfielder this season; an ode to the manager's direct, long ball style of play. Real Madrid loanee and target man Juanmi Latasa is likely to get a run of games up-front due to Enes Ünal's long-term injury.
  • Barcelona are favourites to win this one, with a fully fit starting XI, armed with firepower in midfield and attack. Midfielders Gavi and Pedri, paired with the experience of Champions League winner Ilkay Gündogan, will undoubtedly weave together chances for the visitors and see the La Liga holders win their opening match comfortably in Madrid.
