Team News

Deportivo Alaves
Athletic Club
  • Ximo Navarro has a partial ligament tear in his knee and will be out for the foreseeable future.
  • Pere Pons is a doubt with a small knee injury, but it's hoped he can pull through ahead of this one.
  • Tomas Pina and Fernando Pacheco should return from COVID to be in contention.
  • Yuri Berchiche has undergone an operation and will be out for up to two months.
  • Asier Villalibre is now nearing a return, while Ander Capa is also a doubt.
  • Oihan Sancet will be a guaranteed starter up top after scoring a hat-trick last time out.

Prediction

  • Alaves picked up an important point last time out in what was their first game under new head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar. Joselu scored from the spot to equalise against Real Sociedad, and Alaves were very fortunate to get away with conceding a penalty themselves during the game when Vincent Laguardia pulled back Alexander Isak.
  • The draw followed a 5-2 thrashing against Villarreal, so it was an important result to get some confidence back, and Alaves are now within goal difference of safety as Mendilibar get to grips with his new team.
  • Athletic Club defeated Osasuna last weekend to bounce back from a defeat to Real Madrid before the break. Oihan Sancet scored a brilliant hat-trick, and he could be the answer to Athletic Club's goalscoring troubles, though he has been in and out this season.
  • Marcelino's men also progressed to the next round of the Copa del Rey in the week with a comfortable win over Atletico Mancha, with Nico Williams standing out in that one.
  • Athletic Club have picked up a couple of big wins of late, and even in defeats to Real Madrid and Sevilla, they have played rather well. They should take all three points here.
