Team News

Tottenham
Southampton
  • Antonio Conte will once again be without Oliver Skipp, Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier for Wednesday's welcome of Southampton.
  • Conte may elect to name an unchanged XI from the side that started the victory over the Seagulls.
  • Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski both impressed off the bench over the weekend, but the deadline day arrivals aren't likely to be handed first starts so soon.
  • Lyanco has been ruled out for several months with a serious hamstring injury.
  • Armando Broja hasn't trained since Saturday but could make the squad in midweek.
  • Valentino Livramento made his first appearance since December in the FA Cup win at the weekend.
  • Nathan Tella and Alex McCarthy are still sidelined but Will Smallbone could return.

Prediction

  • Tottenham made a winning return to domestic action following the international break, securing a spot in the next round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win over Brighton. Spurs have now won four of their last five home games, a 1-0 loss to Chelsea the only mark on the record book.
  • Southampton have lost only one of their last eight competitive matches, that coming on the road. They were fortunate to come away from the reverse fixture with a point as Spurs saw two second half goals disallowed at St. Mary's.
  • Spurs have won their last six home meetings with Saints and with the return of key men for the hosts, the north London side are good value for all three points on Wednesday night.

  • Fair play. Southampton pressed very well and created a lot of chances.

  • Spuds completely outplayed.

  • Tottenham played well against Brighton in the FA Cup: the defence looked a lot better with Romero back and Sánchez moved to the right; Kane and Son also both looked more dynamic than they have for a while. Conte will be keen to build on that momentum here and seems to be starting with the same side and shape. Kulusevski and Bentancur who both looked useful against Brighton may make their league debuts. Southampton have a fairly poor away record (P11 W2 D3 L6 gf12 ga 24) but are dangerous from free kicks. It should be an interesting match. Tottenham 3-1 Southampton
