Team News

RBL
Borussia Dortmund
  • Julian Nagelsmann has revealed Angelino will not be considered for the final after some disappointing showings in training and recent matches, so look for Amadou Haidara to start at left wing-back for RB Leipzig on Thursday.
  • Captain Marcel Sabitzer should be available along with striker Yussuf Poulsen, while Hwang Hee-Chan is over an ankle injury as is Justin Kluivert.
  • Christopher Nkunku and Tyler Adams should return, but Lazar Samardzic has a knee injury.
  • January signing Dominik Szoboszlai has adductor problems and has still not played his first game for the club.
  • Konrad Laimer is also on the verge of a return from a knee injury.
  • Jadon Sancho has finally recovered from a muscle injury in a major boost for Borussia Dortmund's chances of silverware.
  • Erling Haaland should be fit after missing the weekend dress rehearsal, while Roman Bürki will play in goal after Marwin Hitz's knee injury.
  • Manuel Akanji und Giovanni Reyna will be assessed nearer the game.
  • Mateu Morey will be out for several months with a serious knee injury.
  • Axel Witsel has torn his Achilles while Dan-Axel Zagadou has had a knee operation.

Prediction

  • Both young coaches are savoring their final few games in charge. 33-year-old Julian Nagelsmann departs with not such a heavy heart for his favourite club Bayern Munich, while 38-year-old caretaker Edin Terzic will assume another role with BVB, unless he is poached in the summer by another club.
  • This would be the first trophy ever for RB Leipzig and for Nagelsmann professional football, while Dortmund seek their fifth DFB-Pokal success after 1965, 1989, 2012 and 2017. Leipzig will likely finish second to Bayern in the Bundesliga, a position Borussia Dortmund have grown more than accustomed to over the past nine seasons.
  • Without the services of prolific striker Erling Haaland, Dortmund won a fantastic dress rehearsal in the Bundesliga at the weekend courtesy of a precious late Jadon Sancho winner. Dortmund have an excellent record of six wins over Leipzig, more than any other Bundesliga team, including Bayern. Borussia Dortmund have scored in 43 games in a row in all competitions and with Sancho and Haaland to the fore can win an entertaining final.

  • Brilliant from Dortmund. Haaland and Sancho deserve to get something for their time there. Nagelsmann disturbingly disappointing again.

  • So this is not a top match?

  • @BeautifulLoser - No, it's only a cup final. On the other hand, if you had a fourth division match in England...
