Team News

Braga
Benfica
  • Other than long-term absentees David Carmo, Francisco Moura and Iuri Medeiros, there will be no injury concerns for SC Braga to deal with here.
  • Carlos Carvalhal made wholesale changes against Portimonense SC in order to rest some key players like Matheus, Vitor Tormena and Esgaio who are expected to return to the starting XI here.
  • André Castro and Al Musrati should be paired in the SC Braga engine room, with Fransérgio being moved out wide.
  • Nico Gaitán has scored in two prior cup finals and will look to bag for a third time against his former club.
  • Lucas Veríssimo came off injured against Vitória SC and will be unavailable, which might force Jorge Jesus to change his usual 3-4-3 formation to a 4-4-2. However, he's unlikely to do so and Morato will probably start at the heart of the defence.
  • Helton Leite, Rafa and Weigl were rested in midweek and will likely return to action here.
  • Darwin might lead the line if Jorge Jesus decides to ring the changes up front.
  • Everton is enjoying a wonderful run of form and will be full of confidence here.

Prediction

  • Of the last 12 matches, SC Braga have only won three, and in all of them they were only able to secure all three points in the final stages of the match. The number of games in short spells has really take a toll on Carlos Carvalhal's men. However, some key players might be well-rested coming into this match and we might see a better version of the "Gverreiros do Minho".
  • Despite ending on an high note, SL Benfica endured a disastrous campaign as they finished third when they were expected to be champions. Jorge Jesus' men have also failed to impress in the League Cup and in European competitions and will try to attenuate such a poor season with a cup win at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra.
  • Both teams have an offensive-minded style of play, but neither are expected to take many risks in a match of such importance. As the minutes go by, though, SL Benfica will likely find cracks in the SC Braga defence and should lift the cup.
