Team News

Grimsby
Morecambe
  • Stefan Payne is suspended after headbutting his own teammate at Bradford but the recipient, Filipe Morais, was also subsequently withdrawn in three half-time alterations - neither will feature again for Grimsby this season.
  • The Mariners responded defiantly in the previous game against Bolton, though and Paul Hurst will hope some momentum can carry over from that performance.
  • Derek Adams could name an unchanged XI, after high-scoring victories in the previous two games.
  • Forward Jordan Slew has been absent for a few weeks now and, when fit, would struggle to get in ahead of the likes of John O'Sullivan and Carlos Mendes Gomes.

Prediction

  • If it's possible to feel wonder and frustration simultaneously, Grimsby Town fans did on Saturday; their side played like world beaters in the 2-1 victory over promotion contenders Bolton, looking better suited to the European Super League than Arsenal, but are still bottom of the table, seven points off safety with a game in hand - if only the Mariners had been able to play like that earlier in the campaign.
  • Morecambe, meanwhile, have responded to a mini-blip by winning successive home games, scoring eight goals combined past Scunthorpe and Oldham; Carlos Mendes Gomes continued his excellent campaign with a brace against the latter and looks ready for a Championship move this summer.
  • These sides created a tonne of chances last time out and, with both in urgent need of a victory to aid their aims, this could be a fascinating affair.
