Team News

Grimsby
Morecambe
  • Charles Vernam will be the first name on Ian Holloway's teamsheet after his hat-trick - including one astonishing solo goal - at Colchester in midweek.
  • In fact, Holloway could name the same XI that finished Tuesday's 3-2 win, but with Brighton loanee James Tilley instead of academy graduate Max Wright on the right.
  • Jake Hessenthaler could be out for the rest of the season, but Burnley loanee Josh Benson has fared well in central midfield.
  • Derek Adams made just one substitution in midweek and that was a conservative one late on to protect a lead, so clearly he has a lot of faith in the XI that started, which would suggest an unchanged line-up here.
  • The versatile Jordan Cranston has been favoured at left-back lately over the dependable but conservative Luke Conlan.
  • Forward Rhys Oates remains out for the Shrimps.

Prediction

  • Morecambe made seven signings in January and that has massively lifted the performance levels of the existing players; the likes of Alex Kenyon and Cole Stockton look like completely different players with more quality around them, which was evident in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Macclesfield.
  • Grimsby Town have only taken 17 points from 15 home games this season, but that return should improve under Ian Holloway, who has helped lift performances at Blundell Park. Charles Vernam was the hat-trick hero in Tuesday's 3-2 victory at Colchester, where the versatile forward scored a fine individual goal.
  • Morecambe have lost the most away games in the division - 11 defeats in 16 outside the Globe Arena - and that is one of the problems that Derek Adams must address but their performances on the road are certainly improving.
