Team News
Barcelona
Real Sociedad
- Samuel Umtiti has missed training this week, which should see Clement Lenglet and Gerard Pique start at centre-back.
- Nelson Semedo is expected to feature at right-back for the home side after not starting in the Champions League in midweek.
- Ousmane Dembele should start on the left wing, as Ernesto Valverde goes with a strong side to try and close in on the title.
- Willian Jose should return to lead the line after serving a one-match suspension in the league.
- Juanmi is expected to hold onto his place in attack after scoring early last time out against Eibar.
- Theo Hernandez should be preferred to Aihen Munoz at left-back, while Igor Zubeldia should be fit after a knock to feature in central midfield.
Interesting little insight on the Messi V Ronaldo rivalry. Both play 90 minutes and do not score in 2-1 home wins. Messi rates 7.5. Ronaldo rates 6.9. When the goals do not come the overall quality of Messi's creative play scaffolds and protects his rating whereas the relative poverty of Ronaldo's general play sees his rating fall substantially lower. This has happened consistently through their careers with similar goal stats but Messi consistently comfortably ahead on ratings....8.6 VS 8.1 on average since 2009. Messi is the greater player.
@iluveverton good job, but I believe even Leo himself is not comfortable when you bother yourself that much, stop this obsessive nonsense, and start enjoying the damn thing, say Messi bests CR7, so what?? he's been on top 2 players of one and a half decade, and even Leo himself (admiringly in a humble and respectful comments) agrees that only Cristiano had been competing on his own GOAT-nominated magical level and the only one to challenge him and that they'd been evolving in the wake of this competition. Signs are there... everywhere, for the ones who choose to see.
@iluveverton every sane man knows that
One of Messi's worst games of the year and still a 7.5? Damn is he good!
Nice win, Treble loading, 6th Ballon d´Or loading....
Love Arthur but is it me or Barcelona Plays better without him. His negative game (back & side passing ) and the ball sticking to his feet unnecessarily. Game after game there is a simple pass forward or an open opportunity which he decides against only to hold on to the ball or pass it back or sideways! Glad to see Dembele get some playing time to get his groove back. Not a pretty win but I'll take it Needed win, not pretty but i'll take it.
@delllello Arthur is still adapting, we gotta give him some time. Look at Semedo and how he's evolving into a new kind of Dani Alves when was just a backpassing merchant in the first half of the season. Same for Dembele, he used to lose every single ball last season and a good chunk of fans wanted him sold, now he's a fan favorite just one year later.
@GioMonaldo You have to be delusional if you think Dembele is "fan favorite". He scored some winners this season, which kind'a made people think of him as not a total flop. Overall he is still not a first team regular. Arthur has outclassed him as signing despite the price difference of the both. Dembele has 1 year more max. before he either adapts to Barca or gets sold. Less for Coutinho. I'm pretty certain he's goner this summer if a proper bid is made for him.
@Pinchfire Not delusional at all, the fans love Dembele and want him to succeed unlike last season when he was getting trolled mercilessly and even most Barca fans (not me) wanted him sold.
So many wasted chances, but still one step closer to the title. Visca Barca!
Vidal is awesome. The ratings are not showing the truth. Different player of what barca are used to but awesome. He will be much needed against liverpool
@k.1 Ha,ha, seriously ? What did you like about him, that he is intense ? He doesn't play football ...
@neumi17 Stops counter attacks. Makes dangerous runs. Dangerous in the air. On the seccond half, he made a good run and great one touch pass to dembele who should have scored. He almost scored from crosses 2 times, and was decent in deffense. Vidal is the only one alongside messi who can overwrite barcas "safe play". They often get stuck, that is why they need him. He could have scored many goals this season but was very unlucky.
@k.1 He was awful tonight, one of the worst on the pitch. his rating here is way too high.
1-0 just before HT, RS will need to come out even more now instead of building a 4 man barrier to cut all passes towards Messi when they don't have the ball.
If messi gets a hatrick he will be first player ever to have 600 goal in all club competition Will equalize Ronaldo hattrick record Will cross Ronaldo in club goals (599) Will top all time club goal record by beating Ronaldo And will have 9 goal gap in 6 matches for 6th golden shoe
@Djey sociedad is too strong,messi will wait untill face a weakest team to score a hatric. Don't worrying.
@brucelian Fiorentina says hi.
@Djey You jinxed it ...
Barca 4-0
Barcelona 3-0 Realsociedad
Barça 4-0 Real Sociedad. Messi with a brace of assists.
Friendly reminder to everyone: we can still bottle all three trophies we're fighting for.
@GioMonaldo If we bottle La Liga this would be some sort of miracle-like occurrence, once in a century. Copa del Rey against Valencia is tricky, but quite frankly Messi likes them as opposition and will most probably destroy them just casually strolling on the pitch. Valverde has to be smart now and manage his first team players properly. He has to understand that CL is top priority. Nobody will care if we lost couple games in La Liga if we win CL. On the other hand if he drains the team and they don't perform against Pool, then the whole season will have a bitter taste and will be considered rather a disappointment - despite winning double probably. That's how it was last year, that's how it's gonna be this year too.
@GioMonaldo you barca bots are on tottenham games comment section like you already reach the final of cl and not even played liverpool
@GioMonaldo the arrogance
@GioMonaldo bayer leverkusen 01/02
@BarcaPlsLetMeDown Oh shit, that was some world class bottling, 2 finals and last 3 league games. I don't think Barca will bottle La Liga though, I am confident we'll win at least one of the three major trophies. Valencia is always tough against us and Liverpool are the toughest opponents we'll face this season.
@GioMonaldo As a Barca fan, I can't see Barca getting past Liverpool but whoever gets to the final will lose to Ajax.
@Jnanavatar555 Barca and Liverpool both have a decent chance of beating eachother and whoever gets to the final will most likely win. (ESPECIALY if its against ajax)
@Jnanavatar555 LOL exact opposite will happen
@GioMonaldo- You'll be fine in the league, Liverpool is a 50-50 imo and the cup final may depend on whether Valencia make the Europa league final- which they will likely need to win to make next season's CL.
Barcelona 4-0 Real sociedad, Messi score 2, Suarez 1 Dembele 1. Man of the Match- Lionel Messi.
