Inter climb team form rankings to ramp up pressure on Juventus in Serie A

Inter manager Luciano Spalletti laughed off suggestions from Juventus boss Max Allegri that the Nerazzurri are favourites to win Serie A this season but there is no denying their improved performances in recent weeks. Juventus have looked far from convincing in the league, whereas Inter have destroyed everyone in their path.

Inter are still six points behind Juventus but are the form team in Serie A over the last six matches. Luciano Spalletti’s side have taken maximum points during that period but have been particularly impressive in the last few weeks, following up a surprise 3-0 win away to Lazio with a 5-0 demolition of Genoa at the weekend.

Spalletti’s side climbed eight places in the WhoScored team form rankings across Europe’s top five leagues as a result of Saturday’s emphatic victory and Juventus know they cannot afford any slip-ups at the moment.

Inter are not the only big climbers in Europe at the moment. Montpellier and Nantes have been in fantastic form of late in France, with the former moving up to third in the WhoScored team form rankings following a hugely impressive 3-0 victory over Ligue 1 giants Marseille.

Nantes, meanwhile, climbed a staggering 17 places after stringing together their third victory in a row. Vahid Halilhodzic’s side have won their last three games by a combined score of 12-0 after tanking Guingamp 5-0 on home soil at the weekend. They are now hot on the heels of Hoffenheim and Chelsea in our form rankings.

Chelsea were one of only two teams that fell places in our team form rankings, although their  WhoScored rating did increase marginally. However, it wasn’t good enough to prevent a drop of five places, while Borussia Dortmund have lost third spot and now sit in sixth.

Paris Saint-Germain were the only side in the top-10 to suffer a decrease in rating, allowing Manchester City to strengthen their grip at the top courtesy of their 6-1 thumping of Southampton. PSG admittedly had a more difficult game, overcoming Lille, who were second at the time of their meeting, 2-1. Nevertheless, the fine form PSG showed in the league in the week's leading up to Friday's victory is enough to maintain a healthy gap between the chasing pack.
